They canceled the trip because of Milan's new work schedule. Milena was unhappy but accepted that the agency would refund most of the payment and they could travel later. For six weeks she asked for news. Milan said administration moved slowly. Meanwhile she postponed dental work she intended to fund with her share and repeatedly calculated how long she should wait before calling the agency again and appearing impatient.
She called on a Friday. The employee said the refund had been issued a month earlier to the account used for payment. Milan's account. Milena had previously transferred her contribution to him. When he came home she asked where the money was. He did not deny receiving it. He said he had paid for professional training because registration was closing and his new qualification would benefit them both. He intended to replace her share before it became a problem.
Milena studied his bag, from which a folder bearing the course logo protruded. She had supported him for months as he discussed changing jobs. She had not known support included his right to decide when her plans could wait. She said his desire to learn did not bother her. What bothered her was that every Monday he watched her postpone her own need, then convincingly claimed over dinner that the agency had not sent the money.
Milan offered to withdraw from training and seek reimbursement. Milena said she did not want to make that decision for him. She wanted her money by an agreed date and an end to the story in which her consent was unnecessary because his intentions were good enough. He made a real repayment plan from his earnings. He continued reduced training and postponed other expenses. She took no pleasure in his sacrifices. It mattered that they were finally his, rather than hers secretly assigned.
They did not immediately plan another journey. Milena first attended her scheduled dental appointment, while Milan prepared dinner that day without presenting it as redemption. Later they opened a new wish list and each wrote actual costs beside their wishes. When he suggested an excursion, Milena asked how much he could contribute now, without promised future wages. He gave a definite amount. They chose somewhere closer and bought separate tickets, then placed them together on the refrigerator. This time both knew what each ticket really cost.
