A musician posted the photograph from a dance evening. In it, sixty year old Zora wore a green dress, and her partner Filip rested a hand on her shoulder. He was twelve years younger. Zora's daughter Dunja messaged before eight in the morning: everyone has seen it. She did not say exactly what should have remained hidden. Zora studied the photograph and noticed for the first time that she was laughing with her mouth open, without the hand she usually used to cover her teeth.

Her husband had died four years earlier. Filip had never known him and did not visit the family house. They had met through an outings group, gradually begun dating, and promised nobody a shared old age. Dunja described it to her brother as a scandal their mother was creating in a small town. Her brother called Zora to ask what the neighbors would say. She replied that they would probably say many things and none of them was her plan for Saturday.

Family lunch became a meeting without her consent. Dunja said she worried that Filip was using her. Zora asked on what basis. He borrowed no money, requested no apartment, and made no attempt to isolate her from family. Dunja mentioned his age, then their father's photograph on the shelf. Zora stood, picked up the frame, and wiped away dust everyone noticed only when they needed proof she was forgetting something.

She said she missed her husband even while dancing. She did not have to sit still for grief to be real. Then she asked her children to ask how she was before calling her to account. Lunch did not end harmoniously. Dunja left crying, her brother followed, and Zora packed leftovers into three containers. She told Filip she wanted to be alone that evening. She did not want new love immediately to have to serve as protection from her old family.

A week later Dunja came for a forgotten scarf. Standing in the doorway, she admitted fearing their father would become a secondary figure in family stories. Zora showed her an album and gave her time to leaf through it. Afterward they looked through photographs from the dance together. Dunja did not immediately become fond of Filip, and did not have to. She asked where her mother had bought the dress. Zora gave the shop's address and offered coffee. It was a small conversation, but at last she did not have to ask permission to be alive within it.
